College student killed at home; accused found dead on railway track in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: A youth was stabbed to death and another youth, believed to be the accused, was found dead on the railway track at Kollam district in Kerala on Monday evening.

Police suspect that the youth who killed ended his life by jumping in front of a moving train.

The deceased were identified as Febin George from Uliyakovil in the city and Tejas Raj from Neendakara on the suburbs of the city. George’s father also suffered stab injuries.

Raj suspected to have stabbed George and his father at their house at Uliyakovil by around 7 pm. George died on the spot, while his father suffered injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently under treatment.

Raj’s body was later found on a nearby railway track. Raj and George were said to have studied together earlier.

Kollam city police commissioner Kiran Narayanan said that all angles of the incident were being probed into.

Kerala has been witnessing a series of brutal killings involving youths, the latest being the murder of five family members by a youth in Thiruvananthapuram. The incidents have triggered discussions on the increasing criminal tendency among youngsters and the influence of drugs, films, social media and video games.
