Director Jofin T. Chacko, whose film ‘Rekhachithram’ has been receiving widespread acclaim for its unique storytelling, has now revealed the secret behind the impressive de-aging process used in the film.
Following the film’s release in January, many praised the realistic de-aging technique that recreated veteran actor Mammootty’s appearance from the 1980s. The transformation was especially lauded for its resemblance to Mammootty’s look in ‘Kathodu Kathoram’ (1985), a film that plays a significant role in the 2025 movie’s storyline.
The execution of this technology was one of the highlights of ‘Rekhachithram’, earning praise from audiences and critics alike. Now, the director himself has taken to social media to credit the talented team behind this visual feat, including the artist who served as Mammootty’s stand-in.
Sharing a post on Instagram, Chacko wrote: “Since the day Rekhachithram released, I have received several questions as well as congratulatory messages about the de-aged version of Mammookka from the 80s. Taking this opportunity to thank (and bring to your attention) the people who made it possible:
1. Twinkle Surya (@tw.inkle230), the artist who performed as Mammookka’s stand-in, capturing his body language and movements convincingly and with ease.
2. Arun (@arunsankaran_pavumba), artist trainer, who specializes in body language and other traits from retro cinema.
3. Andrew (@dcrusandrew) & the Mindstein Team who helmed the AI de-aging aspects. Heartfelt gratitude to every single one of them!”
