For the first time in India’s history, an all-women police force will provide security for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Navsari, Gujarat, on International Women’s Day.
New Delhi: For the first time in India’s history, an all-women police force will manage the security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Navsari, Gujarat, on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2025).
The initiative, overseen by senior IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane, will cover security operations from the PM’s arrival at the helipad to the conclusion of the event.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi announced the deployment on Thursday, stating:
“For the first time in the history of India, only women police will handle the entire security arrangement of the PM’s event—from his arrival at the helipad at Vansi Borsi village in Navsari till the event venue.”
A women-led security force.
The security team will consist entirely of women officers, including:
- Over 2,100 women constables
- 187 women sub-inspectors
- 61 women police inspectors
- 16 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs)
- 5 superintendents of police (SPs)
- 1 Inspector General of Police (IGP)
- 1 Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)
This deployment highlights the increasing role of women in law enforcement and Gujarat’s focus on their inclusion in security operations.
PM Modi’s Gujarat visit & ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’
The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli (March 7-8). During his stay, he will address the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ in Vansi Borsi village, Navsari, a programme aimed at empowering rural women and promoting financial independence.
Minister Sanghavi stated that the all-women security arrangement sends a message about women’s growing role in governance and safety, adding:
“This will show how women are playing an important role in making Gujarat a safe and secure state.”
